Brocade ICX 6430-24: An Initial Configuration To Get Started

When Im doing a lot of switches, I usually like to put it all in notepad and get it ready for cut and pasting into all the switches.  That way, I can all the work up front in notepad, and very little changes (except hostnames and ip addresses) when pasting it all in.  I can get 10 switches done in a matter of minutes.  Now that is having them already powered up and ready.  Below is a cut and paste of a generic config I did for many switches.  This is exactly what I pasted in, minus a few vlans.  I cut those down to make this post shorter.

  1. Great blog, I'm new to switching and I have learnt a lot by reading your brocade section.
I have two 6610 in a stack. Do you happen to have a sample configuration you are able to share? I don't think my switch is secure nor am I getting the full utilization out of it. Thanks, Sam

    1. Hi Sam. Give me a few days and Ill put up a ICX6610 template. I have two questions for you though.
      1. What kind of security are you looking for on your ICX6610?
      2. What are you looking to do to better the performance of the switch (for utilization)?

  2. Hi Shane, I'm basically looking for Core Switch Config 101. My main config is only about 10 lines (excl vlan configs). It just all seems too easy to be secure.
As for performance, I want to utilise a port from each 6610 using LACP but I'm still trying to get my head around the Active/Passive mode of the stack. In addition, I have 10GbE and want to make sure I'm getting all the throughput. I'll take this offline, do you mind if I email you directly?

  3. I'm building a stack of two ICX6610s for the first time also; if you could share a copy of the stack configuration procedure, I'd appreciate it.

    Thanks,

    1. What you see above is exactly what I did, in the order I did it in. Go by that as a template.

    1. No default username or password on the Brocade. It comes without one. You will need to create one.

  7. Hello sir,

I am having an issue with our brocade. We have a brocade-icx-7250 and I have 6 Cisco aironet 3600's AP's connected to this switch and they all power up and sync to the WLC, but sporadically they are losing power and rebooting. I've tried all kinds of different configurations and searched online for an answer and so far, i have found nothing.

    1. Upgrade the Poe firmware, and also the boot and ios firmware add well. See if that resolved the issue. If not, create a TAC case.
